Program Description:

The residency provides a full-time clinical training program which prepares the graduate optometrist for practice beyond the entry-level. Special emphasis is placed upon ocular disease management and the diagnosis and co-management of the ocular manifestatons of systemic disease. The resident is given the opportunity to work and interact with a varietyof multidisciplinary health services within a hospital system, through clinical rotations. The American Academy of Ophthalmology's basic and clinical science course (12 comprehensive volumes) is used as the didatic "backbone" for the program. The resident is required to research and prepare a manuscript for eventual publication.

Selection Procedure and Admission Criteria:

1) Prior to matriculation, the applicant must have received O.D. Degree from a school or college of optometry accredited by ACOE; 2) Letter of Intent; 3) Current Curriculum Vitae; 4) Official Optometry program transcript; 5) Official NBEO transcript; 6) Two letters of recommendation from memebers of applicant's clinical faculty.

United States citizenship is required to qualify for VHA appointment in a paid VA optometry resident position funded by the Office of Academic Affiliations. Reference: VA Handbook 5005/57, Part II, Chapter 3, Paragraph 3.g.(1) & (5)(c), dated June 14, 2012.

Additional Comments

Optometry - Enjoys all hospital privileges. The eye clinic is in a new out-patient clinical addition to the medical center. It is modern and well equipped containing sixteen rooms, eleven of which are exam rooms.
