Program Mission Statement:

The mission of The Eye Care Center of NJ Optometry Residency Program in ocular disease/primary care is to provide an intense, comprehensive didactic and clinical training program that prepares the optometrist to achieve advanced clinical competencies. This advanced training program in ocular disease/primary care will enable the resident to diagnose and manage patients with a variety of complex, challenging ocular conditions and ocular manifestatons of systemc disease and will provide the foundation for career long learning in the future advancement of optometry.


Program Description:

We are a general/subspecialty practice with two O.D.'s and five M.D.'s. The practice has been in the same area for 30 years. We are a high volume practice with a heterogeneous patient population (age, race, socioeconomic background). The doctors also have a surgery center. Our practice offers cataract, glaucoma, retina, cornea, and contact lens care. We treat patients from infants to senior citizens.


Program Length: 53-56 weeks

Grand Rounds Presentation and a paper of publishable quality.

Selection Procedure and Admission Criteria:

O.D. Degree from accredited optometry school (Applicant must be licensed/license eligible in New Jersey; Letter of intent, Curriculum Vitae; Official optometry school transcript, Three letters of recommendation from clinical faculty; Copy of NBEO transcript. Interview required.

We have ECC, OCT, Corneal Topographer, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera, Visual Field, and Tono Pen. -The resident will be able to observe surgical/lasik procedures -The resident must obtain New Jersey optometry license.
