Program Mission Statement:

The mission of the Residency in Ocular Disease at Solinsky EyeCare, LLC is to offer qualified optometrists advanced clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease in a private practice environment. The program will prepare the resident to provide the highest level of care from primary eye care to advanced ocular disease management. Upon our program's completion, residents will be prepared to excel at providing the pinnacle of optometric care in private practice.


Program Description:

The residency at Solinsky EyeCare offers outstanding clinical training and professional development in a private practice environment. Our resident will enjoy the unique opportunity to give patient care in a large full scope multispecialty practice and will receive advanced training in comprehensive eye care, emergency eye care, cornea, cataract, glaucoma, oculoplastic and retinal disease. In addition to direct patient care the resident has the opportunity to observe cataract surgery (including LAL), oculoplastic surgery and refractive surgery. They observe intravitreal injections and fluorescein angiographies in our minor procedure rooms. The faculty offer expertise in all areas of specialization and are available to the residents for instruction and consultation. The resident will complete the program prepared to confidently provide the highest level of eye care.




Solinsky EyeCare has offices in West Hartford, East Hartford, Hartford, Enfield, Vernon, Willimantic, Newington, Wallingford, Glastonbury, and Avon, CT. The resident will be based at the Glastonbury office but will travel to other offices in order to maximize diversity in clinical experience.

WEEK 1:



Monday: Primary Care – Glastonbury Office



Tuesday: Dry Eye Clinic AM, Primary Care PM– Glastonbury Office



Wednesday: Post-op Care AM, Oculoplastic Procedures PM - West Hartford Office



Thursday: Scleral fits AM, Primary Care PM – Newington Office



Friday: Observe Refractive Surgery at LasikPlus in Wethersfield



 



WEEK 2:



Monday:  Primary Care – Glastonbury Office 



Tuesday: Dry Eye Clinic AM, Primary Care PM– Glastonbury Office



Wednesday: Post-op Care including LAL AM, Oculoplastic Procedures PM - West Hartford Office



Thursday: Follow Retina or Glaucoma -East Hartford Office



Friday: CTL Teaches and Fits including sclerals, RGPs AM, Same Day Emergency PM – Glastonbury Office



 



On-call once a month from Friday at 4:00 pm to the following Friday at 7:00 am.


Requirements for Completion:

·       Attend all scheduled clinic sessions and demonstrate appropriate professional conduct at all times.



·       Demonstrate the necessary clinical skills, expertise and progress as determined by the clinical supervisors/preceptors.



·       Attend all formal NECO residency conferences and any other educational programs that have been selected by mutual agreement.



·       Complete didactic activities described in the program curriculum, including writing a paper of publishable quality and presenting at the end of year residency conference.



·       Maintain an accurate Patient Log and Activities Log to document the clinical and non-clinical activities during the residency



·       Be evaluated periodically by clinical supervisors and informed of recommendations or suggestions made to enhance performance.



·       Complete all NECO program and preceptor evaluations and questionnaires as required in a timely manner.



Upon evidence of satisfactory performance in meeting all requirements of the program, the resident will be awarded a Certificate of Completion by the college.

The residency coordinator and faculty decide which candidates to rank based on clinical and academic competence, recommendations, interpersonal skills and interest in ocular disease. Each member of the faculty ranks the year’s applicants and the coordinator consolidates these scores into a final ranking of applicants and submits this rank to ORMatch. The resident will be chosen based on credentials and the interview. All applicants will be evaluated without regard to gender, race, age, citizenship, or non-disqualifying physical disabilities.


Selection Procedure and Admission Criteria:

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:




  1. Applicants must be graduates of an ACOE accredited college of optometry.

  2. Successful completion of the National Boards Parts I, II and III by the end of the residency program.

  3. Applicants must be eligible for optometric licensure in the state of CT at the earliest opportunity.

  4. Applicants must be available for a personal interview.

  5. Applicants can apply through the National Matching Services, Inc. ORMatch.
